Meet Our Mascot
Born in Dublin, Luke the Laker grew up on Lower Baggot Street, just down the way from Catherine McAuley’s first House of Mercy. Since his days as a youngster, he’s admired the dedication and fortitude of the Sisters of Mercy, traits he’s honed during his time as a fisherman sailing the Irish Sea. Like his uncle Louie, Luke bleeds green and blue, and now he’s decided to permanently anchor his ship and follow in Louie’s footsteps, ready to cheer on our ¼â½ÐÊÓƵapp-athletes and do all he can in support of ¼â½ÐÊÓƵapp pride.
Where Did Luke's Bell Come From?
Sister Damien Mlechick was a beloved member of the ¼â½ÐÊÓƵapp community for more than 20 years. Some described her dedication to both ¼â½ÐÊÓƵapp and the athletic programs as "the spirit of the college." Besides serving as the ¼â½ÐÊÓƵapp switchboard operator, Sister Damien could be seen at many Laker Athletic events with her signature cowbell and holy water. Luke the Laker has made a vow to carry on Sister Damien's Laker Spirit by ringing the bell at Laker Athletic events for years to come.
